Morning Workouts May Be Better for Weight Loss

Researchers analyzed data from over 5,200 adults and found that those who engaged in moderate to vigorous exercise in the morning had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) than those who exercised later in the day. However, caution is advised in interpreting these findings, as the observed benefits might be influenced by factors beyond exercise timing, such as age and lifestyle habits.

The study’s limitations include the age disparity between morning and later exercisers, making it challenging to attribute the benefits solely to exercise timing. Morning exercisers were also more likely to have healthier lifestyles, consume fewer calories, and spend more time sedentary than their counterparts.

Experts emphasize the need for clinical trials to determine the true impact of morning exercise on health. While there are physiological reasons to support morning workouts, including potential benefits for metabolism and fat burning, a comprehensive lifestyle approach that includes a healthy diet is crucial for weight loss. Ultimately, the best time to exercise is when it aligns with an individual’s preferences and lifestyle.
